Jessica's Story

At the end of September 2015, I was experiencing a pain in my right calf which I assumed was due to muscle damage from training for my first half marathon. In fact, I was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia. It came as a huge shock, I'd put tiredness down to working hard at my new job and dismissed the bruises covering my legs as clumsiness. Spending my 25th birthday in hospital with my hair falling out was not what I'd had in mind! At the time in my life when I was happiest, I'd moved out of home, started the dream job I'd worked so hard towards and was feeling at my fittest, it felt like overnight it was all taken away from me.

That's why I think Trekstock is such a fantastic charity. The Cancer Info Hub platform is such a valuable resource and has given me support during my treatment. The information on wellbeing - healthy eating, exercise and mindfulness - has inspired me to teach myself yoga in my hospital room and eat healthy (sometimes!). Hopefully, 2016 is the year I get better and get my life back but these past months have changed me forever. Joining the Network will allow me to connect with others with similar experiences to share.
