The Challenge

In 2015, as part of a staff challenge to develop a new team building and fundraising activity, over 50 of the Whistles team came together to take part in #CanalTrek. From Birmingham to London St Pancras, 7 days, 144 miles they took on the challenging walk along the iconic Gran Union Canal. Together, staff and customers helped raise over £30,000 through donations and fundraising activities.

Why canals?

A British design classic. Since the Industrial Revolution, canals have a history steeped in manufacturing, especially for textiles. Built originally by British merchants to improve their supply chain, nowadays, although used less for trade, their authenticity remains as a scenic transport route connecting major UK cities. An iconic destination within the city, just off the beaten track, the canal is accessible to all lifestyles, used by commuters, cyclists, runners & houseboats.

“Taking part in canal trek has been one of the standout achievements of my life so far, and an honour to support such a great charity. It was a fantastic way of branding together various different Whistles functions who I have continued to develop great relationships with since.” Sophie, Whistles Islington.
